StepLength Pro
Privacy Policy
catscatsnekoneko ("the developer") sets out below how user information is handled in the Android app StepLength Pro (歩幅計Pro).
Scope
This policy applies only to the Android app StepLength Pro (歩幅計Pro).
Because information is handled differently in each app, a separate policy is defined for each one. For other apps, see the list of privacy policies.
Information stored only on your device
Everything the app measures is stored only in the app's private area on your device.
- Step length, its estimated uncertainty, and the measurement quality
- Step counts (from each of the two sensors), distance, duration, cadence, and walking speed
- The latitude and longitude of the start and end points, when measured in GPS straight-line mode
- Positioning accuracy, number of fixes, and satellite count
- Profile names and their baseline step lengths
- Notes you enter, and your height if you choose to show the height-based estimate
None of this is transmitted off your device. The developer cannot see it, and it is never passed to the advertising provider.
About location
GPS straight-line mode uses location to determine the distance you walked.
- Only two points are used: the start and the end. The route you walked is never recorded
- Known-distance mode and pace-estimate mode do not request location at all
- Coordinates are stored only on your device and are never transmitted
- Deleting a measurement also deletes its coordinates
Advertising
This app displays ads. Ads are served by Google AdMob.
To deliver and measure ads, AdMob may collect an advertising ID (a resettable identifier), device information, and an approximate location derived from your IP address. This is collected by Google; the developer does not separately obtain or retain it.
- Google Privacy Policy: policies.google.com/privacy
- How Google uses information in advertising: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
Your measurements — step length, step counts, distance, and GPS coordinates — are never used for advertising, because they never leave your device. The approximate location AdMob uses is based on your network connection (IP address) and is a different thing from the location this app measures.
Consent for ads
If you use the app from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the app asks for your consent to ads through Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) on first launch. No ads are loaded until consent has been checked. You can change your choice at any time from "Ad privacy settings" under "About" in the app's Settings.
Screens without ads
No ads are shown at any point during a measurement — countdown, waiting for positioning accuracy, holding still, walking, and finalising the step count. This avoids accidental taps when you take the phone out of your pocket to press the finish button.
Interstitial and rewarded ads are not used.
Physical activity (step sensor)
The device's step sensor is used to count your steps.
- It is used only while a measurement is running. The app does not subscribe to the sensor at other times
- Step counts are stored only on your device
- The app does not integrate with Google Fit, Health Connect, or any other health data service
Permissions the app uses
Physical activity
Required to use the step sensor. Without it, measurement is not possible.
Location
Used only in GPS straight-line mode. Known-distance and pace-estimate modes work without it.
Notifications
Used to show that a measurement is in progress. Measurement works without it.
Foreground service
Required to keep measuring while the phone is in your pocket with the screen off. It runs only during a measurement and stops once the result is finalised.
Vibration
Used for the cues during a measurement.
Internet / network state / advertising ID and related
Required to serve ads. They are not used to transmit anything you measured. These are not declared by the developer; they are required by the advertising library.
Sharing with third parties
Your measurements are never provided to third parties. Since nothing leaves your device, there is no such information to provide.
For information collected by Google when serving ads, see "Advertising" above.
Exporting data
You can export your measurement history as a CSV file from the history screen.
- It is saved to the location you choose in your device's file picker
- The exported file includes the coordinates recorded in GPS straight-line mode. Take care when sharing it
- Once exported, the app has nothing further to do with that file. It neither reads nor transmits it
Deleting data
Measurements can be deleted individually within the app. Deleting a profile also deletes every measurement belonging to it. Uninstalling the app removes everything stored on the device.
An exported CSV file stays where you saved it. Please delete it yourself when it is no longer needed.
Your advertising ID can be reset or deleted from your device settings.
Children's privacy
This app is intended for users aged 13 and over and is not primarily directed at children. It is not configured as child-directed for advertising purposes.
Changes to this policy
Any changes to this policy will be posted on this page.
